Our Greenland paddle has the traditional West-Greenland shape with mild “shoulders” on transition from loom (shaft) to blades. Our storm paddle shares the blade design with our standard Greenland paddle, only its loom (shaft) is shorter. As a finish, this paddle is treated with oil so it feels very natural and warm in your hands. Though historically storm paddles were primarily used with strong winds, today they are mostly used as a spare paddle. But there are many paddlers who use storm paddle and sliding stroke for their everyday paddling.

Wooden Greenland paddle designed by Johan Wirsen. Paddles are made from Pacific Red Cedar and reinforced with edges of Fraxinus. On the bottom of loom the shoulders is pronounced to create an index where your thumbs will sit. The topside is smoother for a softer grip of your palm on the paddle. The advantage of a wooden paddle is that you can adjust and customize it yourself for a personal grip or feel. After you have been using it for a while you oil it again, and have the nice feeling of holding on to wood.
