For children to learn a new sport, instant success is important, as this makes it fun. The Rookie is targeted towards exactly that. The boat flows through river features. Once the first river runs are in the bag, it won’t be long before some playing comes into the equation, and so the hull is much more like a surfing kayak, with continuous rocker, planing hull and release edges. Overall, we’ve given up “advanced” playboating moves like cartwheels and loops, in favor of more ease for river running, ease getting across eddies and only small waves, and eventually, ease of rolling.
